Andaz Mayakoba Resort, located in the heart of the Riviera Maya, is a perfect destination for a fun and relaxing getaway. Whether traveling solo, with your significant other, or with your family, the resort offers a variety of exciting activities that will make your stay memorable.
The Andaz Mayakoba Resort is located in Riviera Maya, Mexico, about 30 minutes south of Cancun airport and just north of Playa Del Carmen. I’ve been a big fan of Hyatt for a while and have stayed in several Andaz resorts and hotels.
Each resort offers a boutique hotel feel without sacrificing the amenities of a larger resort. Mayakoba is one of the newest additions to the Andaz family, as it opened in December 2016.
On our recent trip to Mexico, we had to change hotels at the last minute. It wasn’t a fun situation, but the result was perfect, mostly due to the Andaz Mayakoba.
The hotel is based in the beautiful Mayakoba resort. It includes a collection of high-end hotels, a golf course, many restaurants, a village square, a cooking school, an adventure camp, and even its Cenote, which are natural underground waterways found in the area.
There are a handful of places that I have visited in my life where I felt completely relaxed and immersed. A place with pure luxury but without the pretentiousness or “white glove” treatment you might find in other high-end resorts.
This blog post will explore some fun things to do at Andaz Mayakoba Resort.

Fun Things To Do In Andaz Mayakoba
Andaz Mayakoba Resort, located on the beautiful Caribbean coast of Mexico, is a luxury resort that offers a wide range of fun activities to guests of all ages. From relaxing on the beach to exploring the local culture and history, this stunning resort has something for everyone.
Here are some of the top things to do at Andaz Mayakoba:
1. Cycling Around The Resort
One of our favorite activities at the Andaz was cycling around the resort. Bikes are placed throughout the resort for guests to use as transport.
The resort offers complimentary bicycles for guests to explore the resort at leisure. You can cycle along the pathways and explore the beautiful natural surroundings. It’s a great way to exercise and enjoy the fresh air while enjoying the resort’s beauty.
You can cycle from the Lagoon to the Beach in under 15 minutes, passing through mangroves and wildlife. We did this one evening, and the path was well-lit. It was a nice way to work off our dinner!
2. Hit The Beach
The Andaz has a private beach and the option of beach-view rooms. We opted for a Lagoon View room, so we didn’t see inside the oceanfront rooms. Though we can imagine how nice the views were from these rooms, The beach is on the Caribbean Ocean, with crystal clear bright blue waters and soft white sand.
There are two restaurants in the beach area – OllaTaco and OllaCeviche, which fit the casual style of the beach area and are great places to get lunch or an evening meal.
Andaz Mayakoba Resort boasts a beautiful white sand beach where you can soak up the sun, swim in crystal-clear water, and enjoy stunning views. You can also rent a beach cabana with a personal butler to enhance your beach experience.
3. Head To The Casa Amate
This cozy restaurant is based on the story of the travels of a worldly couple. The restaurant is themed to be like a residence. There are four themed rooms: the library, the bar, the estancia, and the comedor, with an Amate tree as the courtyard centerpiece.
The food was a mix of various Latin American tastes and flavors. We loved this place so much that we ate here for two of our three nights at the Andaz.
4. Eco-Boat Tour And Wildlife
The resort offers a free eco-tour by boat, which takes you through the nature reserve surrounding the Mayakoba properties. It’s well worth taking this free tour, as you can appreciate the various bird species that live in and around the resort.
In addition to kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding, the resort offers a variety of water sports for guests. You can go snorkeling or scuba diving in the Caribbean Sea, try your hand at deep-sea fishing, or even take a private boat excursion.
5. Visit The Mayakoba Resort
Makayoba offers many activities and places to explore. There is a camp that offers activities such as archery and kayaking, a cooking school, a weekly farmers market at El Pueblito (the village square), a world-class golf course, bike trails, and even its Cenote.
You can also sample the restaurants at the other hotels on the resort, including the Banyan Tree and the Fairmont. There’s enough to do in the resort to make you not want to leave!
6. Book A Guided Tour
During our stay, we arranged a day tour of Tulum and Coba, and the hotel staff helped arrange a door-to-door pick-up from our hotel reception. We highlight this as a benefit due to our experience at the previous hotel.
Andaz Mayakoba is built on a complex of lagoons, which offer a unique and beautiful landscape to explore. You can take a guided boat tour of the lagoons or rent a kayak or stand-up paddleboard to explore.
At the hotel, we’d had to allow an additional 45 minutes to get from our room to the front gate of the huge resort for our Whale Shark tour, which was not ideal at 7 am!
7. Try Every Complimentary Local Snacks And Refreshment
Andaz Mayakoba is located near the vibrant town of Playa del Carmen, which offers a great opportunity to explore local culture and attractions. You can visit local markets, sample authentic Mexican cuisine, or dance at a local nightclub.
Every Andaz resort and hotel offers complimentary locally sourced-snacks. These are refreshed daily, so we didn’t need to worry about finding our afternoon refreshments. We loved trying the assortment of snacks, and the fact that they were free was a nice touch.
8. Enjoy The View From Your Room
Waking up each morning with a view of the blue waters of the Lagoon and wildlife roaming around right outside our window was magical. One morning we even spotted turtles right next to our room.
There are many different room options with varying views (including the beachfront ones), but from what we could see, they were all equally spectacular.
While we don’t have kids, we noticed Andaz has a kids club on the property, making it easy for parents to take a well-earned break. It was also a safe place for older kids to ride bikes. The beaches and pools were always guarded, making it a family-friendly environment.
9. Play Golf
The Andaz Mayakoba Resort is home to an 18-hole championship golf course designed by the legendary golfer Greg Norman. The course is located in the heart of the resort and offers a challenging yet enjoyable round of golf.
The El Camaleon golf course, as it is known, is situated on the edge of the Caribbean Sea and the lush Mayan jungle. The course’s unique layout includes three distinct ecosystems: mangrove wetlands, dense tropical jungles, and oceanfront holes. Each hole offers a unique and picturesque view, and the course is known for its stunning natural beauty.
The El Camaleon golf course is also known for hosting the OHL Classic at Mayakoba, a PGA Tour event that attracts some of the world’s top golfers. The course features a combination of wide fairways, deep bunkers, and challenging water hazards that offer a fun and challenging game for golfers of all levels.
Whether you’re a seasoned golfer or just starting, playing golf at Andaz Mayakoba’s El Camaleon course is an experience you will never forget. The course is open to resort guests, and various packages and options are available to suit your needs.
10. Enjoy The Ambiance
The resort’s beautiful design and stunning natural surroundings make it a great place to relax and enjoy the ambiance. Stroll around the property and admire the architecture, art installations, and landscaping.
The resort’s open-air lobby and lounge areas provide comfortable seating and a laid-back atmosphere to enjoy a drink, read a book, or socialize with other guests. Simply soaking in the tranquil ambiance is a perfect way to unwind and enjoy your time at Andaz Mayakoba.
From our welcome right through to departure, we enjoyed every aspect of the ambiance offered by the Andaz Mayakoba resort. The staff couldn’t have been more welcoming, and the attention to detail throughout the resort created a special and memorable experience.
We couldn’t have been happier with our experience at Mayakoba, and we highly recommend the resort for your next trip. If you plan to visit Cancun or Playa del Carmen, we recommend you check out the Andaz.
