Concordia’s first-year university programs started in 1967 via a partnership with the University of Alberta. In 1988, the university’s first students completed the three-year Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science programs; since then, the school has added a variety of other majors and four-year degree options. In 1994, high school and college (degree-granting) were split formally.

Mutual consent dissolved the relationship with the University of Alberta in 1991. Before 1987, Concordia College was a publically supported, denominationally affiliated college; that year, the province of Alberta granted Concordia permission to become an independent, degree-granting institution.

In 1995, Concordia College became Concordia University College of Alberta, changing its name from Concordia College. Concordia High School was founded in 2000 as a spinoff of the high school curriculum housed at Concordia since 1939. Until July 2011, the two schools occupied the same building.
